Rygel
Astrological Summoner
Appearance
A tengu of the astrologer Starwings, marked since Vega's coming by glassy sky-blue eyes, the right pupil shaped like an inverted teardrop gem. At his side stands Vega, a featureless black construct threaded with the same blue-and-gold starlight and wearing a scarf of suns and stars that mirrors Rygel's own.
Personality
Quiet, soft-spoken, and always attentive, a studious and curious soul with no patience for brutish reasoning, though he'll gladly break down a door if there are captives behind it. He can be smug toward fools and quick to call them out, yet cares so deeply for his friends that any threat to them turns him coldly intimidating, with Vega looming at his back. His flaw is despair: after only a setback or two he is apt to lose all motivation and give up, sometimes dragging the group's spirits down with him.
Backstory
Rygel is the eldest heir of the Starwings, a renowned line of tengu astrologers from the remote mountain city of the Dominion of White Stone, whose ancestors foretold every disaster to befall their home by reading the stars. Where his kin became oracles, bards, clerics, and druids, Rygel found none of the family's arts fulfilling, until one clear night he watched Orion's Belt flare an unnatural blue and gold and was struck blind. When his sight returned his eyes had changed, and before him stood a silent black construct wreathed in that same starlight, whose name, 'Vega,' he somehow already knew. As the first Starwing summoner, Rygel has followed Vega's mystery down from the mountains to Otari, certain that a threat gathering here endangers his distant home as well. He communicates with the ever-silent Vega through the subtlest of nods and gestures, a wordless language only he can read.
