Otari Ilvashti

The Osprey, Founder & Namesake of Otari (Roseguard)

Appearance

Remembered as a charming, swashbuckling rogue, the beloved namesake of the town itself. He carried the Cailean Key, a slender skeleton key named for the god who spared him, which would open any lock — a thief's tool turned to honest work.

Personality

The company's conscience and its humour — an incurable optimist whose charm kept his companions hopeful in their darkest hours. His dearest ambition, often spoken of, was to give up adventuring and settle in a small town by the sea.

Backstory

An orphan of Absalom, a thief by necessity, and for some years a pirate, until a cleric of Cayden Cailean spared his life when his crew boarded the wrong ship. He turned his talents against the slavers of the Inner Sea, falling upon their vessels out of thin air — hence 'the Osprey', for the bird that hunts along the coast — and the Osprey Club still takes his example as its guide. At Gauntlight in 4244 AR the sorcerer Belcorra Haruvex brought down the ceiling of the chamber in which the Roseguard fought, and Otari was buried beneath it. His companions avenged him within the hour, but when they returned to dig for him they found no body to bring home. His three friends spent the bulk of their savings building the seaside town he had always wanted, and gave it his name. He has no grave and no descendants, and is honored each Founders' Day with Otari's Obstacle Course.
